Religious Education

The Baptism Liturgy is a beautiful, joyful, and prayerful experience for all who are involved. It especially requires the active participation of the parents and godparents of the child who is being baptized.

Parents and godparents whose children are to be baptized must attend a Baptismal class (third Saturday of each month; 12:30 pm) to reflect on the responsibilities they undertake when baptizing their children.

1- The godparents are chosen by the parents of the candidate (Can 874.1)
2- The godparents must be practicing Catholics (Can.874.1)
3- They must have all the sacraments - Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation (Can 874.1.3, 874.1.4, 874.1.5)
4- If the godfather or godmother are married it has to be through the church.
5- They must have been over 16 years old (Can.874.1.2)
6- The godparents cannot be the candidate's parents, nor the adoptive parents.
7- They cannot be godparents if they do not have the intention of fulfilling the obligations that our Catholic Church demands.
8- Godparents cannot be people who have been excommunicated by the Catholic Church

(original or certified copy from the civil court);
Completed Baptism Registration Form
Parental Approval, if applicable: The Archdiocese of Miami requires that both both parents approve or concur with the baptism of the child. If the parents are not married to each other or one parent is not Catholic, then a notarized Letter of Permission to Baptize is required from the non-custodial or non-Catholic parent.
Sponsor Letter to be provided by the parish of the godparents. See the Godparents section for more information.
Parents and godparents must participate in the Baptism Preparation Class for Parents and Godparents.
